Why I love Netflix...

Before I had kids, I lived at the movies. Religiously, researched upcoming films and followed certain actor/ actresses career.  Befriended other movie buffs.   I was queen of DVR.  Well before DVR, I'd set my VCR and go.  Then I met a boy who didn't love entertainment stuff.  I'd drag him to watch movies after another.  Many times he'd get frustrated at the indie films I'd watch.  When I'd purchase tv series, I'd make him watch but he can only watch an episode a day while I can just lay in bed and watch episode after episode from morning to late at night.  I swear, I went in to the wrong line of work.  If I could get paid, watching show and movies, I'd be golden.  Instead, I'm filling prescriptions. humdrum...  anyway, we got married and then we started popping out kids.  I quickly realized even recording all my shows with a  dvr device, I just did not have enough time in the day to watch them all.  I rarely went to the movies so I could no longer  share my up to date analysis of movies to friends and family.   Friends stopped asking me what movie I would recommend because I was just not caught up with current movies and shows.

Now,  I have discovered Netflix.  Netflix is the best.  I love it.  I get to watch streaming shows and movies while I get discs delivered to my house.  I have pride in my queue. I am able to click on movies as they are released in to dvd and now I get to discover  shows.   And now,  I get to discover shows.  Like for instance... I have discovered in past ..

Nip/tuck:  an American drama series created by Ryan Murphy, which aired on FX in the United States. The series focuses on McNamara/Troy, a plastic surgery practice, and follows its founders, Sean McNamara and Christian Troy. Each episode typically involves the cosmetic procedures of one or more patients, and also features the personal and professional lives of its main cast.

The show began in 2003, and the sixth and final season started airing October 14, 2009, and concluded the series on March 3, 2010, with the 100th episode.[2] While the show was initially set in Miami, at the end of the fourth season the practice was relocated to Los Angeles and many of the characters have followed. The show had 45 award nominations, winning a Golden Globe and anEmmy.[3] Series creator Ryan Murphy has said that the medical cases on the show are "100 percent based on fact". (per Wikipedia)
- So witty, so hilarious..  I loved it.  The last 2 season got a little weird but Julian Mcmahon was genius.

Vampire Diaries: supernatural drama television series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on the book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith. The series premiered on The CW Television Network on September 10, 2009. The series takes place in Mystic Falls, Virginia, a fictional small town haunted by supernatural beings. The main focus of the series is the love triangle between the protagonist Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and vampire-brothers Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) andDamon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). As the narrative develops in the course of the series, the focal point shifts on the mysterious past of the town involving Elena's malevolent doppelgänger Katherine Pierce (Katerina Petrova), and the family of Original Vampires, all of which have an evil agenda of their own.
- I am embarrassed that I got caught up in this teen show but it's so good. CW manages to get very good looking people who can act well.  I enjoyed it and I'm currently waiting on this past season to stream in Netflix.

Gossip Girl: still embarrassed that I watched this and liked it... It  started off so good but the last season and I"m sure this coming season (series final season)  will be okay...  Starting to get old.  But early seasons are really good.  Love Leighton Meester, she surprises me.

Walking Dead:
The series stars Andrew Lincoln as sheriff's deputy[1] Rick Grimes who wakes up after being in a coma to find the world dominated by "walkers", resembling the zombies of George A. Romero's horror movies. He sets out to find his family and other survivors along the way. The Walking Dead premiered on October 31, 2010 on the cable television channel AMC in the United States.[2] Based on its reception, AMC renewed the series for a second season of 13 episodes which premiered on October 16, 2011.[3][4] Two episodes into the second season, AMC announced that the show would return for a third season.[5]
The series has been well received by critics,[6][7] and has received many award nominations, including a Writers Guild of America Award nomination and a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series Drama.[8][9] The series has also attained strongNielsen ratings, beating various records for a cable series, including receiving 9 million viewers for its season two finale to become the most-watched basic cable drama telecast in history. ( per wikipedia)
-  So good!  EXCITING!

Mad Men: So good

Tru blood:

Dexter:  So  good

Tudors: Started out so well but turned flat last two season.

Spartacus:Blood and Sand Original with Andy Whitefield.  So good!  The prequel, Gods of the Arena, I felt did not compare but the finale was very good.  I haven't yet seen the sequel to Blood and Sand but I'll let you know when I see it.
The Killing:

Downtown Abbey:

Those are some to say a few...  I know, I'm late to the party but I still got to enjoy them!

Hesher is a 2011 American "dark humor" drama film written and directed by Spencer Susser and starring Joseph Gordon-LevittRainn Wilson, and Natalie Portman. First screened at the Sundance Film Festival January 22, 2010, the film was released in the United States on May 13, 2011. Most of the songs on the film's soundtrack are tracks from American heavy metal band Metallica and Britishhard rockers Motörhead.

movie info: Loud music. Pornography. Burning **** to the ground. These are a few of Hesher's favorite things. And they are what Hesher (Joseph Gordon Levitt) brings into the lives of TJ (Devin Brochu) and his father, Paul (Rainn Wilson) when he takes up residence in their garage uninvited. Grief-stricken by the loss of TJ's mother in a car accident, Paul can't muster the strength to evict the strange squatter, and soon the long-haired, tattooed Hesher becomes a fixture in the household. Like a force of nature, Hesher's anarchy shakes the family out of their grief and helps them embrace life once more. --(c) New Market Films

This movie was very interesting.  Even though the movie takes you all over the place, it brings you along to end up in a place of sentiment.  The ending scene was very moving in an odd way.

Great performance all around.

Jane Eyre is a 2011 British romantic drama film directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and starring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender. The screenplay is written by Moira Buffini based on the 1847 novel of the same name by Charlotte Brontë. The film was released on 11 March 2011 in the United States and 9 September in Great Britain and Ireland.

I am a HUGE Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte fan!  Ever since reading this book as a child, I loved it.  I believe it was my first love story that I have ever read.  I didn't understand in fullness the darkness that plagued Mr. Rochester but I was enamored by this story.

The director,Fukunaga, had a great vision for this movie.  He gave it a sophistication and a elegance to this film.  I really enjoyed it.  Mia Waskikowska: I am amazed by her maturity in her acting.  She is choosing films that stretch her.  (Kids are All Right, ALice in Wonderland, The Girl with a Dragon Tatoo)  Michael Fassbender received nominations and even won awards for his depiction of Mr. Rochester.  Waskikowska nominated but didn't win.  They were not nominated for an oscar nor was Fukunaga nominated for best director but what do I know.

Love this film!!!

Something Borrowed

Something Borrowed is a 2011 American romantic comedy film based on Emily Giffin's book of the same name, directed by Luke Greenfield, starring Ginnifer GoodwinKate HudsonColin Egglesfield, and John Krasinski.

There are a few snippets of this movie that are good and funny.  But only a few,  and the rest of the film was TERRIBLE.  For me, it was the core of the film.  Ginnifer Goodwin's character sleeps with her best friend's fiancee and they try to cover it up until they find the courage to hurt  Kate Hudson's character, the best friend and fiancee.  No matter how annoying and self-centered they wanted Kate Hudson's character to be so that you could find an ounce of sympathy for  Goodwin's character,  you just can't. Colin Egglesfield , the male lead... I don't know where he came from but choosing him to be a lead didn't seem like a good decision.  I don't know.  I went back and forth.  liking him and then disliking him. ( A Tom Cruise without charisma)   The movie was just very soap opera-ish.  I felt really bad for Kate Hudson.  She was too good for this film.  Even though her character was unlikeable, she made her funny and fun to watch.  Ginnifer Goodwin (Mona Lisa's smile, Big love) seems so much better than what she did in this film,  I don't know what it was... her annoying bangs...  her poor chemistry with Egglesfield. The scene where she and Hudson had that sleepover and danced to "push it " by saln-n-peppa and they shared a moment together where you finally realized that  they are best friends, came and went and never returned.

The funniest scene had to be the badmitton scene:

"What's going on?!"   This made me laugh out loud.

This scene reminds me when me and my BFF  would do dances and film commercials and movie scenes...

Your Highness

Your Highness is a 2011 American fantasy comedy film directed by David Gordon Green, written by Danny McBride and Ben Best, and starring McBride, James FrancoNatalie Portman, and Zooey Deschanel.

When I first saw the preview of Your Highness, it was in height of Natalie Portman's popularity from her movie Black Swan ( recommended). I thought this would be good.   Portman seems to be trying out different genres of film.  She did, in my view, a romantic comedy and a dirty comedy.  Your Highness is the dirty comedy.  It seemed so out of sorts for her to be in this film.  The movie was just so silly and crude.  I don't usually shy away from crude humor but only when it's done well.  This movie had some moments and if you take it in as just silly silly humor.  It was entertaining.  I really enjoyed the musical score.  Music by Steve Jablonsky.  He is connected to a lot of big name movies.  Transformer sequels.. battleship...  He worked for seven years for a music production company headed by hans zimmer (Gladiator, Crimson Tide, Pearl Harbor).  How amazing to work with Hans Zimmer!

There are a lot of big names and it was  entertaining to watch them be goofy characters.

Priest is a 2011 American post-apocalyptic dystopia science fiction action film starring Paul Bettany as the title character.[2][3] The film, directed by Scott Stewart, is loosely based on the Korean comic of the same name. In an alternate world, humanity and vampires have warred for centuries. After the last Vampire War, the Catholic priest and veteran Warrior Priest (Bettany) lives in obscurity with other humans inside one of the Church's walled cities. When the Priest's niece (Lily Collins) is kidnapped by vampires, the Priest breaks his vows to hunt them down. He is accompanied by the niece's boyfriend (Cam Gigandet), who is a wasteland sheriff; and a former Warrior Priestess (Maggie Q).[4]

I personally liked this film. It was entertaining. Even though the story line was very good, the core cast boosted it.  Set imagery was nicely done.   Action sequence was not bad.  It was entertaining.  Paul Bettany was surprisingly good as an action hero.  Cam Gigandet (twilight, burlesque) was very cute.  Maggie Q who I have heard a lot about but never watched any of her films, was good in acting and in the fighting scenes.  I know she is beautiful and I heard some buzz about her in Nikita.  She was good in this movie.  There is something about her...   I saw that Netflix was streaming season 1 of Nikita so I started watching it.  It's really good.  I love anything that shows heroine  power.  Girls kicking butt.  Maggie Q is very good in it. Worth watching.

Young Goethe in love

Foreign Film
plot: Germany 1772 -- the young, dashing Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (Alexander Fehling) aspires to be a poet, but, after failing his law exams, is sent by his father (Henry Huebchen) to a provincial court to mend his ways. Unsure of his talent and eager to prove himself, Goethe soon wins the praise and friendship of his superior, Kestner (Moritz Bleibtreu). Goethe soon falls madly in love with the pretty and free-spirited Lotte (Miriam Stein,) but their secret love affair is compromised as the young lovers are unaware that Lotte's father has already promised her hand to another man...

Director Phillip Stölzl returns to the very wellspring of Romanticism -- Goethe's loosely autobiographical masterpiece "The Sorrows of Young Werther"-- and conjures up a beguiling and refreshingly innocent period romantic drama.

Conan the Barbarian

The 2011 version of Conan the Barbarian was horrible.  The opening scenes had promise... opening music score and just seeing Ron Perlman (Son of Anarchy)... I thought okay this may be good.  But it was so disappointing since the original Conan the Barbarian with Arnold Swarzenegger was so good.  Jason Momoa who I've never seen before, was lifeless and boring as Conan.  Things were so silly.  This movie was just cut and pasted together without any love and care.  Such a shame!!

This remake I can't wait to see TOTAL RECALL.  (another Arnold Swarzenegger classic).  This better not disappoint.

Jump The Broom

Synopsis: A collision of worlds occurs when two African-American families from divergent socioeconomic backgrounds get together one weekend in Martha's Vineyard for the wedding of Sabrina and Jason. But doubts about their impending marriage …

Hands down Angela Basset was the best.  Is the best!  She is just such a great actress.  I love her!

SYNOPSIS: In the outlandish dark comedy SUPER, James Gunn has created what is perhaps the definitive take on self-reflexive superheroes. When sad-sack loser Frank (Rainn Wilson) sees his ex-addict wife (Liv Tyler) willingly snatched by a seductive drug dealer (Kevin Bacon), he finds himself bereft and wholly unable to cope. But soon he decides to fight back under the guise of a DIY superhero called Crimson Bolt. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page), the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife. The rules were written a long time ago: You are not supposed to molest children, cut lines or key cars; if you do, prepare to face the wrath of the Crimson Bolt! No stranger to rebel filmmaking, James Gunn cut his teeth writing for Troma before making his directing debut with 2006's SLITHER. In a similar vein, his follow-up feature combines absurd humor with balls-out violence to create something that is both unashamed and inimitable. But this time Gunn adds a new ingredient, one that is dark, dramatic and subversive to the core. -- (c) IFC Films

After watching KICK ASS, which was such a great movie!  Highly recommend it!  I thought that Super would be like it.  I don't know why but I thought the movies were related.  I was wrong.
SUPER  was so bad.  I don't know what drew Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Ellen Page, and Rainn Wilson to agree to do this movie.  Well, I can see Rainn Wilson being on board.  Very perverse and just wrong.  Ellen Page was the only one who was successfully take this whole mess of a movie and made her character entertaining.

Magic Mike

Synopis: Channing Tatum stars in this drama following an upstart male stripper (Alex Pettyfer) who is mentored by a veteran dancer, played by Tatum. Steven Soderbergh directed from a script by Reid Carolin, whose screenplay was inspired by Tatum's work as a stripper before he made it in Hollywood. Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Cody Horn, and Olivia Munn co-star.

Script written by Reid Carolin.  He is a young guy.  Mainly a producer and based off of IMDB, this is his first writing project.  He produced the movie Stop Loss that Tatum starred in.

I dragged my husband to see this movie.  He thought the movie was funny.  It was very funny.  HILARIOUS.  McConaughey was hilarious.  Many of my friends think that Channing Tatum can't act but I feel like he is learning the craft and he is progressing.  On the other hand, young Alex Pettyfer ( I  AM  FOUR) can't act.  I really thought ,from I Am Four, I thought he had something but it's just good looks.  He is one handsome fellow.  I was personally raving about how hot that boy is and one of my friends had no idea who he is so I googled him and I was shock to find out he is only 22 years old.  A BABY!!  It felt so wrong being I'm so much older than him.  So, I still think looks wise he'd make a very good Christian Grey but because he can't act, he should not be consider for the movie role.

Cody Horn: She plays Brooke in the movie.  She's beautiful and she had this  great flirtiness with Channing Tatum.  I loved how she played Brooke.  Kind of an up tight bad ass type person but underneath she is flirty and fun.  I loved every scene she did with Tatum.  I've never seen her before so I IMDB-ed her and I read she was in the movie flipped.  And then I remembered her.  I am interested to see where she'll go from here.

If you don't know this, you will find out that Channing Tatum can dance for realz!  That boy can dance!  I bought Step Up which is Channing Tatum's  first starring role in a movie.  He's awesome and cute!!  Just amazed that in real life,  he left home at nineteen with no money and stripped for a couple of months and then got picked up by a talent agent.  He then modeled a little while and boom became a movie star.

The movie did better in the comedy portion then the drama parts of the film and the ending was a bit uneventful.  Just a no thinking, quite entertaining movie...

Source Code

Source Code

SYNOPSISWhen decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he's ever known, he learns he's part of a government experiment called the "Source Code," a program that enables him to cross over into another man's identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.
Written by: Ben Ripley

I enjoyed this film. It was very entertaining and unpredictable at times.  "What would you do if you only had less than a minute to live?"  I thought the stand out performance goes to Vera Farmiga hands down.  Gyllenhaal is charming but as an action hero a little goofy but that adds to the charm, I guess.  Monoghan is obviously a talented actress and I had my eye on her career for a while and after Made Of Honor, I thought she'd star in more movies.  But she is great supporter actress.  If you haven't seen Gone Baby Gone, Made of Honor,  or  Eagle Eye, you should watch them.

I really enjoyed this movie.

Schmidt and Jenko are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier - and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.
I grew up watching the original t.v. show 21 jump street.  I was excited to hear about this remake.  I finally got to watch it last week.  It was hilarious and silly.  I loved the cameos of the original cast which includes holly robinson peete, Johnny Depp and Richard Greico.  I wonder what happened to Peter Deluise.  I thought maybe he was busy with "waverly place" but when I imdb some info...  The father of Selena Gomez's character is Peter Deluise's younger brother.  They look so alike.  Well, I'm sure the movie wanted the big names out of the 21 Jump Street craze.  It was hilarious... Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have great comedic chemistry.  HILARIOUS.  Silly fun...  Random thoughts:  the kiss between Tatum and the girl cop (who had very few screen time and lines)  at the end.  so random.  Jonah Hill lost mad weight. a bit sappy between Hill and Tatum but added charm to the movie.

Tyler Perry as Alex Cross.  Can he fill Morgan Freeman shoes? (kiss the girls, along came a spider; adapted from James Patterson books)  From the trailer, it seems he can.  I love Tyler Perry.  Great director and actor.  And Matthew Fox as a villian and so thin and scary looking.  Far from being the heroic Dr. Jack Shephard from Lost.  Looks exciting!

Buzzy (Edward Burns) and Katie (Caitlin FitzGerald) are a newly married couple living a seemingly conflict-free life. But when Buzzy's damaged and impulsive half-sister Linda (Kerry Bishé) arrives at their doorstep expecting to stay for an indefinite period in their Tribeca loft, her antics threaten to disrupt the couple's commitment to an "easy" marriage. Meanwhile, with Katie's sister Marsha projecting suspicions of her own husband's infidelity onto Buzzy, will the couple's formerly trusting and insulated life be able to withstand the dysfunctions of their respective siblings?

I am a fan of Edward Burns style of writing and directing.  Some critics call him a Woody Allen wanna be.  Woody Allen writing and directing sometimes a little too smart for me.  Burns- style I can understand and appreciate.  This Faux-documentary style film was entertaining.  It feels real and that for an hour I get to look in on this couple and I relate to them.

The one actor that stood out to me, acting wise, was Kerry Bishe who plays Buzzy's step sister, Linda.  She's  messed up and Bishe  played the character with depth.  I looked her up and didn't see any of her other works.  I did start to watch Red State which she's listed as a cast.  THe movie was too scary and crazy that I didn't finish watching it.  I don't remember her.  But I do think only great actors can pull of a scary movie.  Many stars have started out in horror like Johnny Depp, Jaime Lee Curtis, Kevin Bacon, Angela Basset, and many more.

This film I'll give 2 1/2 out of 4.

Directed by: Jason Miner

Russell Brand was hilarious.  I don't know how much improvising he did or how much of the script he stuck with in his performance.  It seemed like I was watching Brand's stand up.  Story line was blah..
I know that it doesn't compare to the original "arthur" with Dudley Moore.  Dudley Moore's version is sophistication and this one was plain silly.

The only think I liked were the  scenes with Brand and Helen Mirren who plays his nanny.  Helen Mirren was a pleasure and it seems that Brand and Mirren worked well together.  I was pleasantly surprised that in the sillyness Brand delivered the serious dramatic emotions.  Russell Brand is not just a pretty funny boy but  he has some acting ability.

Director: Rob Reiner

The movie  begins in the early 60's and follows a girl and a boy.  Juli baker mainly played by Madeline Carroll meets a boy, Bryce, and becomes flipped for him.  Bryce is a shallow boy due to the upbringing of a father who is shallow but after encountering Juli, his eyes becomes open.  Bryce follows suit and becomes flipped for Juli.  Love it love it!!  Good movie for the family.

Ideas I loved:  Peoples can be less or more than their parts.  Shallow vs. deep  self-centered vs. self-less (thoughtfulness)   On Bryce's father: something rotting under the surface  .

Madeline Carroll is talented. I thought she did a great job portraying Juli Baker.  She performed well with the seasoned/ veteran actors like Aidan Quinn and Penolope Ann Miller.   Sweet Story!

Keep an eye out for  Madeline Carroll!

I loved this film.  It is sweet and well directed.  Music was great.
